You deserve to have a space that’s perfectly designed for you. When it comes to closets, there’s an extra emphasis on space. One could argue that it matters more how you use the space than how much given space there actually is. In reality, there’s a lot of factors to consider when designing your dream closet.

First, you need to consider your space. Do you want to make the change to a walk-in closet? Do you have room for a walk-in closet? The good thing about a well-designed walk-in is that you won’t need a traditional dresser anymore, so that saves some space elsewhere. On the other hand, there’s a lot of merit in wall closets and reach-in closets as well. It just depends on what works best for you. It’s also important to consider what items you need to store. In order to design a closet perfectly suited to you, you need to take inventory of what you have. Consider what kind of storage space you need for those items.

If you decide to add any additional shelving, think about how to best to utilize the fixtures. You should be able to reach everything with ease. For example, it’s best for open shelves to be placed at waist height with drawers stored underneath. The items you wear the least should always be placed toward the floor (you don’t want to be bending down all the time to get your everyday items). You can also opt to include shelving for your shoes. Just because shoes go on your feet doesn’t mean they have to go on the floor!

Above all else, you should let your imagination run wild when designing your dream closet. There are about a thousand different features you can add: LED lighting, custom curtains, even seating.
